About

One person, strong opinions.

Bahuckel is me - an engineer with fifteen years across hardware and software, and more than ten of them on the business side of it. I got tired of expensive closed tools that rarely worked properly and quietly did things I had not agreed to, so I started building the alternatives myself. Self-hosted, no telemetry, no accounts, no strings attached.

What I believe

  • You should own what you use. Not rent it, not borrow it under terms that change. The software, the data it holds, and the decision to keep running it are yours.
  • A private conversation should be private. Not "private except for the company that hosts it". There is no central service in anything I build, so there is nothing for me to read and nothing for anyone to take from me.
  • Nothing should phone home. No analytics, no telemetry, no update checks you did not ask for. If a feature needs a network, it says so and it is off until you turn it on.
  • Honesty over polish. If something is beta, it says beta. If a security claim is not proven yet, it is not made. I would rather a page read a little dull than a little false.
  • Native where it matters. Desktop clients that start fast and stay small, and purpose-built network paths rather than a browser engine doing the heavy lifting.

Open where it can be

Bahuckel Hub is Apache-2.0 licensed. Bahuckel Diag is proprietary today, with a free Basic edition planned under the same licence and a paid Enterprise edition, because that is how I fund the rest. Every project page states its licence up front, and third-party notices ship with every release.

Work with me

If you need something built - a store page, an internal tool, a self-hosted replacement for something you rent - I take on fixed-price work, and small jobs are sometimes free. See Commission.
