EDEXO 1.3.0: two apps, one launcher

Colonize moved into EDEXO, the plan stopped asking me to tick boxes, and a review before release found 26 things I had got wrong.

EDEXO-Compare is now EDEXO, and it has two halves. Compare is the exobiology app it always was. Colonize, which lived on its own as a private beta, now sits beside it: same launcher, same look, same HUD, its own button.

Why one app

I was running two programs that read the same journal, kept two copies of the same settings, and drew two different looking windows. Every fix I made in one I wanted in the other. Folding Colonize into Compare’s shell meant it got the tabs, the galaxy map, the browser, the options and the HUD for free, and it meant I stopped maintaining a second app bar. Tabs drag between the two apps’ windows too.

The plan stopped asking me to tick

The first versions of the haul plan had a checkbox on every line. They were never needed: the game already knows. The journal says when cargo comes aboard and when a site records a delivery, so that is what marks a purchase or a trip done now. A delivery made out of order used to leave the plan confused; now it just makes the plan again from what every site still needs. No boxes anywhere.

Sites became cards, each with its own rules: one wants large pads only, another may use planetary ports, a third should not wait on carriers. The plan runs under the strictest of them and says which site tightened it. There is also a credits-by-week fold: what the deliveries paid, what the goods cost, game week by game week.

Sellers, done properly this time

Saved sellers were listed as “known, but none fits” for nearly everything, and that one was mine. A station I had bought from, with its stock unknown, counted as one ton; the plan emptied it after the first ton and stopped. Spansh results went through a cleanup twice and the second pass dropped every row, so background looks saved nothing at all. Fixing both took my own list from 387 sellers to 2,540 in about thirty seconds. Spansh is now read whole markets at a time, forty stations in one request, so one answer fills in everything a station sells.

A review before release

Before calling it done I had the whole change since 1.2.20 read again, piece by piece, looking only for things that are wrong. It found 26, and every one went in before release rather than after. A few I am not proud of: clearing saved sellers never reached the disk, so they came back on the next start; Inara’s “106 days ago” never read as a date, so Inara sellers never aged out; the fade I added for closing menus swallowed the click that closed them. Each has a test now.

Also in it

A Ship section for the HUD: your own ship from above, each of the 49 with its own outline and the modules where they sit, coloured by damage. It only shows when something is actually hurt. Carriers & Stations with a Tritium finder for carrier owners. A Motion setting for those who want the app still. The portable exe stops unpacking 370 MB on every start. And on Linux, a laptop whose graphics driver took the app down at start now gets a safe graphics mode by itself.

The code moved to a non-commercial licence with this release. Streaming it, monetised or not, needs nothing from you.
