Bahuckel (Electron, 2024–2026)

The first generation. Web client, Electron desktop app, Node.js server. Retired.

Superseded by Bahuckel Hub.

The Bahuckel wordmark in neon over a wireframe of the old Electron client, with a red DEPRECATED stamp across it.

The original Bahuckel proved the idea: an open, self-hosted community chat with voice and screen share, a modern dark UI, and no central service reading anyone’s messages. It shipped as a browser client, an Electron desktop app, and a Node.js server with SQLite in WASM.

Why it was retired

It worked, but it carried a browser engine in every install, the voice path went through WebRTC layers I did not control, and the server and marketing site were tangled together in one process. The rewrite as Bahuckel Hub keeps the ideas, drops the browser, and moves voice onto a purpose-built UDP relay with encrypted media.
